Where does Offensive Waste go?
In the UK, offensive waste must be segregated out from other waste streams into tiger-striped yellow and black bags. These must be disposed of at 3/4 full to avoid the bag splitting.
It’s then transported by a licensed waste carrier to facilities for incineration to create energy-from-waste, depending on whether the local infrastructure allows.
Unlike clinical or hazardous waste, offensive waste doesn’t require high-temperature incineration, making it more cost-effective to dispose of when properly managed.
This waste must be tracked with a waste transfer note, and these records must be kept for a minimum of two years.
